
Certificates of Merit were presented to hockey's Norris Davis.
Norris Davis was recently honoured at the
RJR Sports Foundation 2007 Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year ceremony at Tuesday evening's ceremony at the Pegasus Hotel.

Norris began his playing career at the Wolmer's Boy's School while in 3 rd form and went on to earn his 1 st cap representing Jamaica at age 17 against a visiting German club team, playing at Jarrett Park Montego Bay in 1973. He continued as a member of the victorious National team in the Benson & Hedges Tournament at Sabina Park in 1974 where Jamaica defeated Chile 3-1 in the finals, having brushed aside the likes of the USA , Trinidad & Tobago , Guyana and Mexico .
He represented Jamaica at three Pan American Games, Mexico '75, San Juan '79 and Indianapolis '87. He also participated in two Central American & Caribbean Games, Havana '82 and Mexico City '90.
His administrative stint began in the early '80s after graduating from the UWI, Mona with a BSc in Natural Sciences, serving in every position in the then Jamaica Men's Hockey Association (JMHA) from Secretary, 2 nd VP, 1 st VP and president on two occasions, 1989-91 and 1994-95. With the merger of the JMHA and the JWHA he served as VP men's affairs in 2004-5 and on various committees over the years.
His administrative career also included Coaching, serving as coach for his alma mater, club and National for junior & senior teams. He has attended coaching courses conducted by FIH Master Coaches in Mexico City 1980, Jamaica 1991 & Holland 2000. He was National coach from 1999 -2001. He also assisted the female National squads with goal keeper training. His coaching boundaries extend to the Inter Collegiate level where he coaches the UWI Mona teams and has served the Jamaica Inter Collegiate Sports Association as Hockey coordinator for the past 10 years and is currently President of that organization. |
