Lady Humming Birds swept by the Cubans

Jamaica went down to a crushing 5-0 defeat to Cuba, in the final game of the three-match Pan American Games hockey qualification series, at the Mona AstroTurf in St Andrew on Sunday October 31, 2010.

Cuba swept the series 3-0, having already clinched the qualification spot after dismissing the Jamaicans 3-0 and 2-1, respectively, in the first two games.

Jamaica's coach, Dr Michelle Holt, said her team did not adapt to the wet conditions, caused by rainfall prior to the match.

JHF Selects Women's Team for 3 Match Series against Cuba

The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) has selected a squad of eighteen players, including two new caps, to compete against Cuba's national female team for the final spot in the 2011 Pan American games which will be hosted in Guadalajara, Mexico.
   
The series will be played at the Mona Hockey Facility, on October 28th, 30th and 31st starting at 4.00pm each day. The Honourable Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Mrs. Olivia "Babsy" Grange will meet the teams and declare the Series open at a brief Ceremony at 3:30pm on Thursday, October 28, 2010.

Our team will be led by Dadre Ann Clarke (Captain), with Shareeka Elliott (Vice Captain), Shakeela Elliott, Chantal Russell, Sauwana Gordon, Sharee Russell, Shackera Williams, Lori Ann McIntosh (Goal Keeper), Kamiesha Erskine, Shana-Kay Tullonge, Demi Nicholson, Chakira Airey, Tashana Edwards, Racene Johnson, Trudy Ann Knight, Kamille Griffiths; with new caps, Ebony McLean and Chantel Graham (Goal Keeper).

The "Lady Hummingbirds" preparation is headed by Technical Director, Dr. Michele Holt and team is managed by Miss Audrey Gaynor. 

The Cuban delegation is expected to arrive in Jamaica on October 26, 2010.

 

International hockey returns to Jamaica

Jamaica host the Cayman Hockey Club in a series of veteran games over the Heroes Weekend during St. Andrew and Munro Old Boys Hockey Clubs "Fun-At-The-Turf" event. The schedule is:

PanAm Games final spot play off in Jamaica

The Lady Humming Birds off to a great start...

Jamaica's senior Lady Humming Birds defeated Puerto Rico 3 - 1 in their first game at the XXI CAC Games in Estadio Idelfonso Solá Morales, Caguas, Puerto Rico today.

Racene Johnson scored in the 18th minute and Shareeka Elliott followed though a penalty corner in the 32nd minute to give Jamaica a 2 - 0 half-time score. Captain Dadreann Clarke converted a penalty stroke in the 46th minute. The host nation got their goal from the stick of Natasha Ruffalo Roman in the 66th minute.

The Lady Humming Birds will next play against Mexico on Saturday July 24 at 1:00pm.

JHF Names Senior National Men's Team for the XXI CAC Games

The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) has selected sixteen players to represent Jamaica at the XXI CAC Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, July 21-31, 2010.

Jamaica men's national team

Kishawn Smith will captain the team which includes, Donovan Shakespeare(Goalkeeper) -  Vice Captain, Nicholas Beach, Brian Brodber, David East, George McGlashan, Kemar Mitchell, Niijon Sandford(Goalkeeper), Michael McClarty, Charles Burton, Duvaughn Henlon, Giovani Gordon, Richard Brown, Andre Gardner, Marlon Jackson (joining from Trinidad) and new cap Oshane Hasely. 

The team is coached by Head Coach Aubyn Ferguson and Assistant Coach Richard Wisdom. Nicholas Brown is the Team Manager. Mr. Richard Shaw, JHF VP – Men, travels with the delegation and will the point person for JHF at these games.

Jamaica is drawn in Pool B alongside Mexico, Dominican Republic and Netherland Antilles playing their first game against the latter at 11:00am on July 23.

The team departs on Saturday July 17th and will join the women contingent who left the island today. The female team plays their first game against Puerto Rico at 5:00pm on July 22.

The team continues intensive training on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to include practice matches and will depart the country on July 19, 2010.

JHF HOSTS PAN AMERICAN HOCKEY FEDERATION BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEETINGS

The Board of the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) has selected Kingston, Jamaica as the venue for their annual Board of Directors and Planning Committee meetings. These meetings will take place from May 13-16, 2010 at the Spanish Court Hotel, St. Lucia Avenue.

The Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) will play host to approximately forty (40) persons from the Pan Am Region, including Mr. Antonio Von Ondarza, PAHF President and FIH Vice President and Ms. Sue Neill, PAHF General Secretary, as well as Presidents and Executive Members from other countries in the region.

Some of the planned activities include:

This festival is staged simultaneously in all hockey playing countries around the world and is aimed at providing a fun filled weekend for young players between the ages 6-21. This year's festival theme is "It's All in the Game" and the JHF's activities will include mini competitions, skills and technique demonstrations, video presentations, displays and rap sessions.

Tomlinson sets stage for hockey's development

President Victor TomlinsonPRESIDENT of the Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) Victor Tomlinson has whipped up support for a long-term plan to improve the sport locally.

Tomlinson made the disclosure following his return from a meeting with the hierarchy of the world governing body during a recent trip to the FIH World Cup in Delhi, India.

He had also resolved issues relating to the late withdrawals of two coaches from a coaching course, clearing the association from sanctions and penalties associated with their pulling out.

Captain Milton Richards Memorial Hockey Tournament 2010 Results

The Captain Milton Richards Memorial Hockey Tournament 2010 ended on Sunday April 11 and honoured a founding principle of the event by awarding "Academic Grant In Aid" to two tertiary level students who displayed Milton's character on and off the field during the tournament. Deidre Clarke who represented St. Andrew to the female award and Rushane Walker from Circus Circle captured the male award. 
St. Andrew won the female division and JDF retained their male title defeating Sharpe's Rebels and Circus Circle respectively. The Milton Invitational defeated Phat Thursdayz for the Mixed Veteran's title.
Other prize winners were;


  • Top goal scorer
    • - women: Camille Griffiths (St. Andrew) – 4 goals
    • Men- Brian Brodber & Nicholas Beach – (Raiders), Gerome Davis (JDF) and Joevani Gordon (Sharpes)- all scoring  5 goals each

    • Men – Sheldon Brown (JDF)
