Lady Humming Birds left the island on Wednesday to participate in the 3rd Pan American cup. Captain Nicole Grant had some very encouraging words for the team. She spoke to the job they had ahead of them and what it will take to be one of the teams to qualify for the World cup in 2010. For now the focus is only on this tournament
The Lady Humming Birds play the opening game on Saturday 9:30am Berumda time, 8:30am Jamaica time against a top contender USA..
Women's National team selected
The Jamaica Hockey Federation has selected its National Women's Senior Hockey Team, "Lady Humming Birds", that will participate in the 3rd Pan American Cup in Hamilton, Bermuda from February 6-15, 2009. The team is drawn in Pool B with USA, Trinidad & Tobago and Chile against whom they will make their debut on Saturday February 7, 2009 at 12:30pm.
The team of sixteen (16) players includes ten (10) members of the 2007 Caribbean Cup silver medal team and four (4) new caps including Excelsior High student, Sasha-Gale Thomas. The return of the Elliott twin sisters, Shakeela and Shareeka brings additional experience and skill to the squad. Members selected are:
The contingent is completed with Coach - Christine Barclay who guided the 2007 Caribbean Cup silver medal team, Manager - Dave Lemard and Assistant Manager - Denise Wisdom.
